As I as am sitting here on this dreary day, I started to think about how so many military wives despised shows such as “Army Wives” or “Married to the Army: Alaska”. The argument against these type of shows is nothing new. Simply put military wives don’t want to be portrayed as what has been known to be typical ( ie: lazy ,uneducated , baby makers, tag chasers) stereotypes of us.
If you were a fan of the shows mentioned above it’s no secret that Army Wives is supposedly coming back for an 8th season and poor little Married to the Army : Alaska just never had a chance. I attribute MTAA’s failure to improper promotion and a crappy time slot.
Even though I was a fan of both I have been thinking about how a Season 8 of Army Wives could really go? Most of the cast has left the show (even though I really did the new cast) , every season a main character dies , and I think we have played every story line in the military community. When it came to MTAA the show could have went in a great direction but again reality is not planned out. This is especially the case when we are talking about a lifestyle that is so taboo and that people can be so protective and sensitive about.
All those thoughts led me to pose the following question: Are military wives offended by shows that depict our lives period or just by ones that don’t portray us in the best light (although some of the topics be they true are taboo)?
I almost feel like some wives think we military spouses are to sacred to be discussed, or because our spouses are military that our lives (generally speaking) need to remain private.
I have heard through the grapevine that there is another reality wives show in the works, I will be right here with keyboard in hand waiting for your reactions.
