Q. Hello,
I’ve been reading some of your blogs, love them. I also noticed that you haven’t been on lately so we will see how this goes. My fiance just recently left for basic training. I don’t know how anything works. I know he gets paid. We paid bills together so had a joint account. He set up direct deposit to this account while he is away. Do you know when that money starts coming in? I’m paying his car loan, insurance, phone, and many others and this information would be important.
Thank you!
A. Hi, and congratulations on your boyfriend enlisting into the Army. The military is issued their pay 2x a month on the 1st and 15th. If he is in BCT pay can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks. Even so, he will be back paid. He will complete the processing of his pay documents and so forth at BCT. You can view a 2011 Military Pay Chart here: http://www.dfas.mil/militarypay/militarypaytables/2011MilitaryPayTable1-4.pdf
Edited to Add via our comments: The guys actually get paid on the 15th and 30th of every month. Your paycheck on the “1st” is actually pay for the prior month. It makes a big difference when stopping/starting an allotment or calculating other entitlements. Pay from the 1-15 is paid on the 15th and pay from the 15-30 is paid the 30th (aka 1st). Doesn’t seem like a big deal, but take it from someone who worked at finance and had to explain this to soldiers everyday because of some issue that affected their pay!!
Best of Luck!

hi there…my husband is an army reservist and is currently serving for 3 weeks in AT (annual training). Do you know what that pay schedule is. He started serving on the 21st, I haven’t seen a paycheck yet.
Thank you!
So if they get paid on the first for the past month and the 15 for the 1st – 15 and then again on the 30th does that mean that they get paid 3 times a month or is the pay on the first a one time thing, where they are getting the back pay for the 1st 4 to 6 weeks? Learning all of this is so overwhelming, and I cant seem to understand a lot of it. :'(
Hi! My husband leaves January 23rd 2013 for Basic Training. I have no idea how any of this works. I am wondering how much we will be getting paid while he is in boot camp? Will I be being paid? We also have a son, does that make it so that we get more? I am just wondering if I will be able to make it financially while he is away.
Hi Juliah,
Yes your husband will receive a direct deposit on the 1st and 15th of every month. You can see the 2013 (proposed) military pay chart at https://armywife101.com/2012/09/heres-what-the-2013-military-pay-chart-might-look-like.html
He doesn’t get more because you have a child . What he automatically gets by having a dependent is BAH which is housing allowance in addition to his regular pay. This amount of housing allowance does not change based on size of family. It is based on rank and zip code. While he is away at BCT you should also get Family Separation Pay. Best of Luck!
My husband is prior active duty, he just officially got back on active duty on 2/27. So far he has yet to get paid. We are stuck in a hotel because we are waiting for a house on post to finish getting done what needs to be done to it, they are telling us we should be able to move in on 4/2. My husband is getting pretty upset since he still hasn’t gotten paid. they told him at first that he would get paid on 3/15 and now they are saying this friday but there is still no LES online. Does anyone know how soon your first LES shows on the pay website?
Howdy! I know this iss kind of off-topic however I had to ask.
Does running a well-established blog such as yours take a large amount of work?
