I suffer from horrible anxiety! Anyone with anxiety knows that your mind is constantly filled with thoughts of the worst possible thing or you’re constantly overthinking even the smallest things. Add in a deployment and this can magnify anxiety x 10!

During deployments my worst fear was getting sick or something happening to me and not knowing how the military would reach my parents, or a trusted friend in case my spouse couldn’t be reached right away .

Over the years I have thought about easy simple ways to help remedy this issue for military spouses, because it’s a very real fear. Here are a few easy things you can do to give you peace of mind about an emergency during a deployment or TDY.

Have An Emergency Plan

In the midst of all the other things that you are trying to get in place during your loved one’s departure, thinking about yourself might get lost in the shuffle. Make an emergency game plan. If you have a trusted friend on base or nearby discuss making them a emergency contact. Do the same with a trusted family member. Discuss details such as allergies, health conditions, and important documents.

Use The Emergency SOS Options In Your Phone

Iphone and Androids both come with Emergency Contacts features. These features not only allow you to set emergency contacts in your phone, but these contacts will be accessible even when your phone is locked with a simple press and hold of the volume button. On the iPhone you can easily press the volume button and not only call for help, but a text with your location will be sent to designated contacts.
