When I think of the Sandy Hook tragedy I think of beautiful innocent children who lives were cut short by the deranged mind of a psycho killer.

I certainly don’t connect that with soldiers who defend our country and allow us the majority of the freedoms we have.

A little boy in Michigan recently attempted to celebrate his birthday like most kids , by bringing theme adorned cupcakes to school.

According to the Yahoo article the boys mom dropped them off at the front desk where apparently the secretary even complimented them. Not even 30 minutes after the mom had left she received a call from the school asking her to come and pick the cupcakes up because they were topped with little Army action figures that held guns. She was told according to Fox News” the  principal branded the military-themed cupcakes “insensitive” in light of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting”.

*As a side note when I saw the title of the original article I assumed that the cupcakes were taken since they were homemade. In my kids schools we cannot send in homemade items*.

I get it some parents don’t want their kids exposed to guns whatsoever. At the same time are we going to far removing figurines which have been a past time of children’s play for decades?

How dare this school associate the F&^$#@ up psychotic individual who killed people to WWII action figures. Naysayers will say no it’s not that the principal is associating the military but just the usage of guns is not a good thing.

Well the question is when are we going to far?

Last week “Raising America” did a story on a school who suspended a 7 year old for eating his freaking Poptart into the shape of a gun. Another story came out about a little girl who was suspended for bringing a “Hello Kitty” bubble gun to school and before that a 5 year old boy was threatened with suspension for making a gun figure out of legos.

We as a society have gone overboard with “political correctness”. The things we should be PC about we aren’t and the things we have done in society for years as part of pop culture and history we are becoming overly PC about.

For the record kids making gun figures is not what causes kids to grow up and shoot people. Parents need to spend more time helping their kids to distinguish fantasy and entertainment from reality instead of suppressing kids normal playtime and creativity. If this were the case we wouldn’t have to be so over the top and PC about everyday things kids do.

No wonder the world is so uptight these days, people can’t do anything without the possibility of crucifiction.

Do you think the school overreacted?

23 Comments on Kids Military Action Figures On Cupcakes Equals Insensitive to the Sandy Hook Tragedy?

  1. It has gone beyond being ‘pc’ to a full blown witch hunt. My 6 year old son wants to be a soldier like his daddy and I am constantly having to tell him he can’t pretend to shoot because he might get into trouble. How do you explain to a 6 year old that what his Daddy does for a living is honorable and brave when he’s not even allowed to pretend to be like him?

  2. You forgot to mention the deaf little boy who’s name is Hunter. He was asked to change his sign name because it was a pretty literal translation of his name (making gun shapes with his hands and moving them up and down). How ridiculous! If my daughter’s name was Shooter, would she have to change her name?

  3. O_o That’s horrible. I agree that I don’t see how green cupcakes with solider toys on top woudl be insensitive to a school shooting. I’m sorry I just don’t. I get that parents dont’ want thier kids to play with guns but a 5 cent plastic toy? Really? I honestly dont’ think that’s going make much of a difference. As for the little boy who was asked to change his name sign. If I was his mother I’d be livid.

  4. This is nuts! No wonder so many parents home school their little ones these days. It’s not even worth the stress!!!

  5. This is hilariously insulting & pathetic. Soon this country will have no military with all the cuts they continue taking from it & the lack of support & appreciation. Especially with the leaders some people keep voting in.

& news flash: where is the raw proof that Sandy Hook wasn’t staged & fake? All in saying is there was no solid, hard evidence. I know there are conspiracy theories all over the place done by crazy people, but the things that came out about Sandy Hook added up…. Frighteningly, might I add. I don’t want to sound nuts, but it’s scary. We never got solid proof of who the guy was & who his mom was/is. Just saying.

So with that being said – just goes to show how people in this country are bleeding hearts worried that something that did not affect the kids in Michigan personally will hurt them/terrify them first hand. It’s toy soldiers, COME ON!

Above are a few of the links for the original story about the child and his cupcakes. The town that this took place in is my hometown, and I am beyond furious with them. My nephew who is now a 7-year-old first grader who nearly got suspended last year for playing Army with a bunch of his friends during recess. When my brother was called in for a meeting with the principal and the school counselor they said that my nephew needed to see a psychologist and that he may have some mental disorders because no ‘normal’ child plays Army at school and that him pretending to shoot someone was ‘irresponsible’ and that he needed to be severely disciplined. What are you supposed to do when a 6 or 7-year-old has it in his mind that when he gets older he wants to be a Soldier? There’s nothing that can be done! I hope that other schools in the nation learn from this disgrace of a principal.

  12. One of the very lucrative businesses women can be into is the creation of accessories.
So far, reactions towards the acquisition, as well as
for the announcement from the new business model, are actually mixed, but only time
will tell whether or not really a revamped
version from the massively popular peer-to-peer website will likely be as
successful becasue it is predecessor. There are some significant
improvements made over Vista, but for the most part, it’s only
a version of Vista that is certainly both stable and much more user-friendly.
