I’ve heard of Ibotta before, just as I have a million other apps where you get back money based on purchases you have made from retailers. I normally don’t get excited because the stuff you usually can save on is not anything I usually buy.

What I hadn’t seen was an app that had “the commissary” as an option where you can get cash back on common items like any kind of bread you buy, any kind of milk, produce, or things like diapers and baby food. The images on this post are deals that are valid by shopping at the commissary now.

If you’re not familiar with Ibotta:

Ibotta is a new Android and iPhone app that allows you to earn money by purchasing participating items. You can earn this money in addition to using manufacturer and store coupons. And the best part: You don’t even need your phone while you are shopping!! All the work is done once you get home!

For the past few weeks my best friend kept insisting I download Ibotta because every time she shopped at Walmart of any of our local grocery stores she was getting back as much as $5 cash per trip. I know it’s not a couple of hundred dollars or anything, but savings is savings. Once you reach $20 cash you can cash out via Paypal or another option called Venmo. If you don’t want to do that, then you can exchange for a gift card.

Finally I gave in and downloaded the app the other day and was hooked.

How to use:

  • Open the app and choose products which you will purchase from the store you will be going to. By the way almost every store is in there and it’s not just grocery stores. You can save on clothes purchases, movies tickets and more.
  • For the commissary scroll down and choose “Military Commissary” .
  • Select your items
  • When your done shopping snap a picture of your receipt using the app’s “Verify Purchase” button and your money will be credited to your Ibotta account within 24 hours. When you reach $20 you can cash out.
