They PT, they train in the woods, they roll around in the ground, and some lounge in hot hangars all day. No matter which of those they are doing, it all equals sweat and odors.

In the Army, soldiers have several washable parts of their uniform which includes the ACU’s, their undershirts and socks. The actual Uniform has to be washed in brands of detergent without optical brighteners. If washed with optical brighteners then it can ruin the material that causes them to be seen in night vision detectors. This can cause personnel to be seen in combat situations where they want to remain unseen.

We will touch on that another day, but even though they can’t wash their uniforms in all the smell good detergents they can certainly smell good underneath. It’s why I was glad to try out the new Downy Fabric Conditioner.  I used it on the tan undershirts and socks.

The conditioner works to make clothes not only smell better but remain soft, unfaded, and in good condition for long lasting wear.  On first use the clothes we washed smelled amazing and in fact did seem softer. Downy Fabric Conditioners protects clothes in many ways:

Downy protects clothes:

  • Instead of losing their shape, clothes bounce back to their store-bought form.

  • Colors stay true and resist fading.

  • Towels are protected from pilling and fuzz.

  • Fabrics are softened for added comfort.

Because the military has to pay for uniforms it has always been important to preserve them. Even with a uniform allowance one can only buy so many uniforms. So why not save where you can! And since the military is all about protection here is the behind the scenes on how and why this protection works:

  • The science behind fabric protection: During a ride around the washing machine, garments pull stretch, and rub together. Downy conditions, strengthens, and lubricates each fiber to protect clothing from the friction, and agitation of typical washing cycle.

Because the military lifestyle revolves around protection and appearance I like that this particular Downy product will allow other parts of the military uniform to smell fresh and look clean and unfaded. If your spouse has or had a dirty job like mine which revolved around climbing in and out of a helicopter in 100 degree heat then you will really be happy because it really kills odors too–the military socks really stink!  And, saving a little money doesn’t hurt neither.

Where to purchase:

You can purchase Downy Fabric Conditioner at any Walmart. This shouldn’t be hard as there are usually Walmarts outside of every major military installation.

You can purchase at Walmart online here and learn more about Downy on Facebook and Twitter by using hashtag #ProtectClothesYouLove .
