Recently I shared ways my soldier and I communicated during our last deployment, which included Skype and Magic Jack. You can now add Gmail to your list, because today via their blog Gmail announced as a special thank you to our military, all service members with a valid .mil email address can now make free phones calls to the US.

Family members of uniformed personnel can also call their loved ones abroad for as little as $0.02 a minute. How great is the idea of being able to call the hubby or wifey whenever you want (or at least when the internet overeas isn’t being a jerk).

As of now the free calls via Gmail will last through the rest of 2011.

Spouses who wish to pass this on to their service member can click “here” to get them on their way to free phone calls.
