Over ten years ago I met my husband and with that package came my gorgeous now thirteen year old daughter. When I got married I instantly became a full time mom. Although a few years later we had a cute baby boy , I always enjoyed the fact that I had a daughter without having to go through the process of labor to have her HEHE!

This past weekend my best friend asked me to go shopping with her in Raleigh for the day and we would leave the kids at home with my husband and have a grown up girls day out. Then it clicked in my head to let the boys ( my son and husband) have their own day at home and to take our daughters with us.

I know it’s not rocket science to take my daughter but I admit because of hubby’s work schedule, I usually jump at the opportunity to get time to myself and frankly she is at that age where half the time she doesn’t want to be bothered anyway. I decided to ask her if she wanted to hang out with us “old” ladies and surprisingly she jumped at the opportunity. I suspect it had to do with the fact that some free shopping was involved but whatever!

Nonetheless we made our way to Raleigh to several stores and at each store my daughter and I tried on clothes, accessories and shoes.  We then headed to P.F. Changs where we stuffed ourselves with Crispy Honey Shrimp and Sesame Chicken , Chicken Lettuce Wraps and their Egg Drop soup which I have been craving since we left.

After we left we headed to Sweet Frog’s and I watched how my daughter who normally piles her cup high full of ice cream and toppings carefully only half filled her cup and went easy on the toppings since “she” was paying for it herself. Kids crack me up!

At the end of the day we were shopped out, full and tired. I also realized how I actually have a mature teenage daughter who carries herself so much like a young woman. She makes me proud that even when we went shopping she isn’t just running to grab items, she is carefully looking at prices and aware of what something cost. She doesn’t ask for a lot which is why I try to get her almost everything she wants (within reason). I remember being a teen and saying darn I don’t want to be an older parent and while I didn’t get pregnant in high school, I still feel so lucky that I can be just thirty years old and have an almost fourteen year old. I love that I have this young lady to sit and people watch with me, drink lattes and chat with . For someone who didn’t come from my womb , we are so much alike.

I’m a pretty lucky woman!
