We all know in this economy no one can afford to buy groceries , never use a majority of them and then throw it away.

Well readers that is exactly the situation here…I Krystel aka Army Wife am a “Food Waster” I buy a carton full of groceries use some and never get to the rest in time. Part of the problem stems from the fact that hubby is deployed and while I do plan my dinner menu for the week , sometimes I do not stick to it or frankly I am to lazy to make full course meals everyday. The kids and I tend to live off nuking food as well as stuff that can be thrown in the oven.

Take a look at my situation below and feel free to offer your commentary!

  1. My dad uses onins n green peppers alot and he told me a good way to make em last especially if you dice them for use..Cut up the peppers or onions place in air tight container and freeze them then as you need pull out of freezer use what you need put rest back in freezer. He does the same for shredded cheese..

  2. A good way to not waste money on food is plan your meals for a week or 2 and that way you just get what need and not just excess stuff that could just end up being a waste becuase you forgot you had it or didnt know what to make it with :D

  3. 1)make an inventory of what you have–even if that means just poking your head into the fridge, freezer and pantry BEFORE heading to the store.

(that would eliminate the trifecta of milk cartons..lol)

    2) cut up, dice etc the onions and peppers, put them in ziploc bags (separately or together, your choice) and you can pull out what you need and put the rest back in the freezer!

    3) try to look at the food items you already have to decide what’s for dinner, not the other way around. When you decide to make lasagna and then go to the store and buy everything you are probably buying items you already have at home such as cheese, noddles, ground beef etc!
