AROUND FAYETTEVILLE:

Kids Fest
Take advantage of this spring activity by attending this Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation-sponsored event on Sat., May 5 from 10 am-2 pm in Festival Park. This free event will offer arts and crafts,
games and inflatable attractions. Several community agencies are expected to be on hand with family-based information and goodies. For more information, call 433-1547.

Cross Creek Mall will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation that gets underway in June. Plans and renderings will be unveiled during a press conference May 3 at 10 am in the Food Court. The public is welcome to attend.

31 DAY SALUTE

WAR OF 1812 SPECIAL EXHIBIT
Tuesday May 1, 2012 – Thursday May 31, 2012 | 12:00 AM | Transportation Museum
In commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, we will open “Fayetteville and Cumberland County in the War of 1812” on May 1. This exhibit will highlight the military, political, and social history of the era.
National events such as the inspiration for our National Anthem, the burning of the White House, and Battle of New Orleans will set the stage for events affecting North Carolina. Learn about the state’s defense measures and the British invasion along our coast. Explore the weapons and tactics of Napoleonic warfare and gain a greater understanding of the war’s impact on the home front in Fayetteville and the surrounding area.

2012 FAYETTEVILLE DUCK DERBY
Saturday May 5, 2012 | Cambelton Landing 12:00 PM
15,000 to 20,000 rubber ducks will race down the Cape Fear River to support Fayetteville Urban Ministry and several other local non-profits. It is an event full of food, vendors, live entertainment, and excitement for all. We want YOU to be part of our event! Patrons adopt a duck for $5 through the Duck Derby website. Each adoption has a registration number that is tagged on a duck. On race day, the ducks will race down the Cape Fear River. The owner of the first duck to cross the finish line wins the grand prize! The following four ducks will also also receive prizes.
