Okay I am sure that title was a bit dramatic but it is true…Army personnel are getting new PT gear. The change I am sure is a welcome one since one of the biggest complaints has been the length of the shorts. I know in the past my husband has complained about feeling a bit exposed in those infamous black windbreaker shorts especially when they do any exercise that requires bending or sit-ups.
The new PT uniform is black and gold and has over 40 different changes to it. The Army Physical Fitness Uniform will make it’s way into Clothing and Sales stores at “The Exchange” towards the end of the year. Some of the changes include no reflective material, the color, shorts that fit and lay on the body better and tagless labels just to name a few.
As a mil spouse the part that caught my eye was that so many parts have been removed which will make the uniform cost about $3 less. The other big change is that liners have been removed which were helpful in keeping odors at bay.
Via Army Times:
Despite soldier requests, the uniform does not include anti-microbial properties that would have helped reduce odor. Officials decided more research into their long-term effects was warranted, Mortlock said. The Army Surgeon General’s Office and Natick Labs are on the case.
The Army studied whether a black uniform would make soldiers hotter but tests using a “sweating mannequin” showed the moisture-wicking material compensated for the color difference, Mortlock said.
Well that’s just great more funk on top of funk. However I do find the newer uniforms to be much sexier!
