A recent info-graphic put out by Military Spouse Magazine says that Florida is the top travel destination for military families. There are many beautiful and family fun places to visit all over this sunny state, however it’s no secret that Orlando is the most popular vacation spot there for families.

Traveling can be costly and a discount of any sort is always helpful especially when it comes to the price of admission to an attraction. A few weeks ago I embarked on the start of my Summer “Military Discount Travel Series” in which I visit destinations that offer military promotions. I thought in addition to the places I visited in Orlando I would compile and share a few other military discounts in and around the area that might be helpful to military couples and families making their way there this year.

Here are some of the most popular and also not so well known:

 1. Disney World Armed Forces Salute Discount

It’s no secret that one of the most popular military discounts ever is Disney’s Armed Forces Salute Discount. This discount gives up to 40% of resort rooms and you save half on 4 day park tickets that cost almost less than a one day ticket.  I’ve also included some helpful tips from the unofficial (but official to me) source of info on this discount Military Disney Tips. You can also get his great book “Walt Disney World for Military Families“.

2. Universal Studios Orlando Military Discount

I had the privilege of being invited to visit Universal a few weeks ago and my family and I had a ball. They have packages with tickets and hotel accommodations specifically for military families. Click Here for details.

3. Waves of Honor ( Formerly known as Hero Salute)

This discount is great for a few different attractions including Busch Gardens ( there is one in Tampa, Florida) Sesame Place, Adventure Island , and SeaWorld. There is a Seaworld and Orlando and military families can receive complimentary admission once a year. Click Here to get your free tickets.

4. Kennedy Space Center

Located about an hour drive from Orlando this is still one of the most popular attractions on an Disney Vacation. I visited there a few weeks ago and learned so much. Seeing a space craft in person is much different than on TV. Click Here for details on this military discount.

5. Nickelodeon Hotel

UPDATED: NICK HOTELS HAS CLOSED

My family had the pleasure of also staying at the Nick Hotel and we had the best time. I am a child of the 80’s and 90′ so it was nostalgia for me while letting them enjoy all their favorite Nick Characters. They offer a really great package for military families with all kind of goodies included. Click Here to learn more about the Nick Military Discount.

6.  La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil

UPDATED: THIS ATTRACTION HAS CLOSED:I hear this is a fantastic show . Famous for it’s extreme costumes, dramatic lighting and unique and bizarre choreography it’s sure to entertain. A military discount is available and they do list on their site that they give one, however I had to call to get the percentage off. The representative told me that the discount is 25%-30% off and discounted tickets for military can only be purchased at the box office with valid military ID. Learn more about this discount by clicking here.

7. LegoLand Florida

If your kids are Lego lovers then a pitstop here will be much enjoyed. Military personnel including Reservists receive free admission and family members can receive a substantial military discount on the price of admission. Details here.

8. WonderWorks

An upside down mansion with over 100 interactive exhibits. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting here on a day when we were done with theme parks and looking for something a little less crowded to do. Kids will love. Offer a $3.00 discount pp off admission.

9. Disney Springs

It came to my attention via the wonderfully informative website Military Disney Tips that Downtown Disney offers quite a few military discounts at various places. So when I went there a few weeks ago my family made sure to utilize one at Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop which offers a 20% military discount. You can obtain the whole list of discounts offered here.

10. Shades of Green

While the higher in rank you are the more expensive Shades of Green can be it would be silly for me not to mention it. Shockingly their are still many families who are unaware this (DOD Resort) gem exists on the grounds of Disney for military ONLY. While some people find it pricier it’s still considered a Deluxe Disney resort which is at the highest of the chain when it come to Disney resorts. You can also purchase attraction tickets there and the big plus there is NO TAX! I stayed there back in 2008 and we loved it and one of our readers shared their stay which you can read here. The rooms and bathrooms were really spacious. Details here.
