Whose that girl?

My husband and I have always been a fan of exposing our family to the best by way of coupons and specials. As of lately we have become more hooked on using our Groupon account.

For those who are not familiar with Groupon , it is simply a site in which you place your town or city and awesome deal of the day discounts for travel, entertainment, dining and shopping come up near you . Many of the promotions are half price as was in the case this weekend in which we scored a $10 for $20 deal.

The Deal

Saturday night we headed on a date night to the Shalimar Tandoor Grill a quaint romantic non chain mom and pop Indian cuisine restaurant right here in Fayetteville NC.

As we entered we were greeted by traditional indian and bolly type decor with a modern twist. I was alittle worried because there were only two sets of customers in there. One group was leaving and another couple in the main dining area where we were being seated was finishing up their meal. We were escorted to a nice booth with a beautiful table center piece and given a starter which consisted of a pork rind type snack (which I didn’t get a chance to ask the name) and two types of dipping sauce. One appeared to be a sweet and sour sauce, while the other one seemed like a cilantro based sauce.

We then placed our main order for an appetizer of their signature “Garlic Naan” which is a type of flat bread with lots of garlic , alittle cilantro and butter. This was hands down one of the best breads ever. It was light with the perfect amount of garlic and butter and I believe salt was in there somewhere, but not alot.

Yummm do you see the smoke...Now that's hot fresh food!

For our main entrees I ordered Fish Tikka which was a salmon type of fish with lots of traditional indian spices and veggies with a side of balsmati rice and hubby ordered their Mixed Tandoori Sizzler which consisted of two chicken dishes and a lamb dish. My gosh it was so good and arrived fresh. This brings me back to why I mentioned that there were hardly any customers when we arrived. I assumed that the food would be so-so or half not cooked well since it was an hour or so from their closing time, boy was I wrong! The food amazingly arrived fresh on sizzling stone like platters with enormous portions.  I can honestly say was great and nice to have a sit down meal that’s not at your typical chain eatery. Towards the end of our meal , more customers arrived and the manager was very gracious and explained to us how they cooked the meats and so forth. One recommendation is don’t order the Garlic Naan bread and then go to a packed movie theatre afterwards, not a good move on your part :)
