I decided to come to my home of Long Island, New York for a few weeks because I hadn’t seen my family in quite some time.

I come from a family of lots of cousins and I am the 3rd oldest of 20+ immediate cousins. I have babysat the majority of my family members ,so it’s pretty hard to process that they are now driving and are college graduates.

Last week my cousin who is 23 years old , a new graduate with a degree in journalism ,and who talks like I type 80+ miles per hour ( I love you Brytt) invited me along with another cousin to go grab a bite to eat at our local Applebee’s. Of course I obliged and joined them in a fun late night full of half price appetizers (because everyone knows appetizers are half price after 10pm).

Sidenote: Yes Being home has interfered a tad bit with my Medifast but not to much. More on that later!

In any event when we got there I took a seat waiting to see if anyone I knew from high school would come in the door like back in the day. As the foyer filled with people under 21 it hit me that this was no longer the Applebee’s that I frequented during my college days in 2000 or during my high school years in the late 90’s.

A new generation had taken over my popular hangout . I reveled in watching the young girls squeal over some guy coming in and I was envious of the size -0 teens who were scarfing down quesadillas and buffalo wings who would never gain a pound . They were so care free without  a worry in the world.

Here I was, just a real life ghost and reminder of the past. It was quite depressing.

Being 31 is not old by any means but for some reason I came home that day truly understanding the meaning of when my mom would say enjoy being young for as long as you can.

Have you ever went somewhere and felt out of place age wise?
