Whether you have kids or not there is something fun about going back to your childhood and visiting a zoo and getting to intermingle with the animals. Since many of you are always looking for fun things to do nearby or for a day trip, here is a list of zoos around the country ( in the most popular military states) who offer a military promotion.
Alabama
Montgomery Zoo- Not only do they offer a Veteran’s Appreciation week with 50% off admission, they give a daily military discount to military personnel and their families. Details here.
Alaska
Alaska Zoo– Offers a $5 discount on their normally $10 admission.
California
San Diego Zoo– offers free complimentary admission to military personnel. Check the IT office on base for discounts for family members.
Colorado
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo– As of publishing of this list The Cheyenne Zoo is currently offering Military Appreciation week from September 14th-September 20th 2015 for military personnel, and their dependents. Tickets for this special are $5.25 pp. Outside of this promotion they offer a daily military discount with $3 off admission.
Georgia
Atlanta Zoo– Offers $4 off admission for up to a party of 6 for military personnel and their families.
Hawaii
Honolulu Zoo- Offers admission to military for $8. Their normal admission for adults 13 and up is $14. Military kids 3-12 are $4.
Kentucky
Louisville Zoo offers several levels of military discounts. They don’t tell you how much on their site but they do tell you to inquire at the front window.
Louisiana
Audubon Zoo– Through September 30, 2015 is offering a BOGO deal. Ofer is valid for up to 4 paid and 4 free tickets.
New York
Bronx Zoo– “Offers complimentary Total Experience or General Admission ticket to the Bronx Zoo for military personnel; and 50% discount for up to three family members included on the same admissions transaction. Individual must show a valid, active military identification at the Admissions booth”.
North Carolina
North Carolina Zoo (Asheboro) – $2 off admission for up to 6 dependents.
Oklahoma
Oklahoma City Zoo– “The zoo is proud to offer a 50% discount to active members and retirees of the military, their spouse and up to five dependents. Parking is free”
South Carolina
Riverbanks Zoo and Garden– Riverbanks offers discounts to military families with military ID ($12.95) . However if you purchase regular prize admission tickets online they are 15% off.
Tennessee
Knoxville Zoo– Offers $5 off their membership
Texas
Houston Zoo– “Houston Zoo offers all members of the U.S. military, their families and veterans 50% off regular admission tickets with valid military ID.Guests with a U.S. military ID can purchase up to two (2) adult and three (3) children’s tickets per day. This new discount allows the zoo to include even more service members and their families the ability to enjoy the Houston Zoo. Also, present your Active US Military ID and receive 10% off any Houston Zoo membership”.
Virginia
Virginia Zoo- Offers $1 off admission to the military.
Metro Richmond Zoo- Also offers $1 off adult tickets and .50 off children tickets.
Washington D.C.
Smithsonian National Zoo- Free Admission

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium-Offers $2 off admission to military and their families per ticket.
