She carried you, played with you, read you stories, held your hand and sang to you. She has always made you feel confident, safe and loved, and shares in both your laughter and your tears. This incredible woman is strong, beautiful and has often put your needs before her own in a way that only a mother could.
One of my most cherished memories with my mom was while my military family was stationed overseas in Germany. She and my dad flew over and I took her on a girls’ getaway to Italy. Her grandfather (my great-grandfather), was Italian and was never able to return to his home country after immigrating to the States. Visiting the “old country” with my mom was priceless. While there, I introduced her to our extended Italian family, listened to her “sing” the word grazie, watched her surprise as she downed her first espresso and her delight as she tasted her first gelato. It was just me and my mom in the birthplace of the Renaissance, and it was perfect.
