Sometime ago military spouse and blogger Angela from Mommy PR and myself were invited to take a Fathom Cruise to the Dominican Republic which is a new form of cruising and creating a social impact as well. I’ll share more about that in a separate post but our trip begin first at the Homewood Suites Blue Lagoon in Miami. Miami happens to be a popular port for many cruise lines that offer military discounts which makes this particular location great to stay at since it’s not far from the ports downtown.

Since our ship left on a Sunday we decided to get to Miami a day in advance so we could relax and have leisure time. Of course we partnered up with the folks at the Homewood Suites because we love staying with places who help us travel on a military dime.

When I shared my last Homewood Suites review with you a while back,  I had went with my family and we shared a large 2 bedroom suite in Charleston, SC. It was great to try out a different dynamic this time as it was just me and Angela in which we shared a one bedroom suite.

Upon entry we were greeted by their usual professional team. I pay attention to small things like the fact that everyone is dressed in black suits and extremely professional and courteous. We were checked in less than 5 minutes.

The Suite

I love the Homewood Suites for one reason…the rooms! Okay there are many reasons that we love them, but if you are the type of person who doesn’t like to feel crowded then staying at a Homewood Suites should be certainly be on your option list.  As mentioned we had a huge one bedroom suite that consisted of a nice size living room with a flat screen, dinner table, full kitchen, plush chair, ottoman and couch. We also had a great view of a body of water. While the actual bathroom lacks in size compared to the rest of the room, the large sink ad counter space outside of the bathroom absolutely makes up for that. Our actual room had (2) queen beds and we slept so good that we almost missed the amazing breakfast that you receive when you’re a guest there.

We also had an amazing full kitchen complete with paper towels and all the pots and dishes we needed make an amazing meal. We however opted to order in and veg out on Lifetime movies.

The Food

I am a huge fan of Homewood Suites breakfast. There are so many selections and they put out quite the spread. Before we left to depart for the cruise Sunday we feasted on hash browns, sausage, bagels, pastries and yogurt. Of course they also had your staples like eggs, grits, waffles and a selection of juices. Breakfast can get crowded so always get down their early or towards the end. The middle of breakfast time tends to be the most crowded. You should also know that all that all Homewood Suites offer a evening reception with a light meal and drinks Mon-Thur which can definitely help save on the food bill when vacationing.
