Brr…those temps are dropping! Cooler, shorter days mean more time snuggled in your warm house with a cozy blanket and a hot mug of cheer.

 Modern Programming Thermostat

For the savvy military family, dropping temperatures don’t necessarily equate to rising utility bills. Energy savings lead to financial savings for your family, and who doesn’t want that?

Energy Quick Fixes:

Incorporate these small changes to keep your bank account cool while you stay warm.

  1. Turn off the lights after you’ve left a room.

  2. Utilize energy efficient light bulbs.

  3. Unplug computer and cell phone chargers when not in use.

  4. Run your washing machine, dryer and dishwasher only with a full load.

  5. Hang clothes on drying racks to reduce the energy use of a dryer.

  6. Purchase a low-flow shower head to reduce hot water usage without sacrificing water pressure.

  7. Install aerators on sink faucets to cut back on water waste.

  8. Dress appropriately in the house — knit hats, fuzzy socks, warm blankets, flannel sheets and slippers can go a long way before having to turn on or up the heat.

  9. Open curtains and blinds on the sunny side of your house during the day, and utilize thermal curtains to insulate windows and retain heat in the evening.

  10. Reduce your water heater setting from 120 degrees to 115 degrees to save more than 10% on your bill.
