Got this Tweet from Walmart:
@armywives101 Hi Krystel -thanks for spreading the word & GREAT news! We’ve lowered the opening fee to $5 which is refunded! -heidi #layaway

With the spectacle made of the Sears Heroes Wish Registry list I thought it appropriate to share the official word on Walmart’s layaway for the holidays.
Considering there is a Walmart near almost every Army post nationwide , I think we will benefit from this.
In addition to the PX, Kmart , Burlington Coat Factory and other online retailers who offer layaway, Walmart has announced they will begin their holiday layaway program early.
You can now begin putting items on layaway at Walmart starting September 16th and ending December 14th.
This year customers can place electronics, toys, sporting goods and small home appliances on layaway with just a $15 opening fee and 10% down or $10 whichever is less. Each item must be $15 or more.
I for one will certainly be starting next month and look forward to finishing early!
You can read official details from Walmart here.

I will have to remember this, we are getting my son a laptop for Christmas and this way I can pay for it over time.
I need a ipad and i like the layaway because thats the way i can pay for my ipad.
Awesome! I’ll be looking forward to starting and finishing early as well. Though I thought I’d let you know on the Wal-Mart website it says:
$10 or 10% down (whichever is GREATER)
$15 open fee (refundable to a Wal-Mart giftcard upon full payment)
$15 min. per item, $50 min. total purchase
I can’t wait neither oh and I added the link so people can go to the official website to see …Thanks :)
I read that they changed their $15 fee to $5
