Although I am a National Guard spouse now I know the importance of a portable career. It was in fact during my husbands Active Duty career and being stationed in Hawaii that I started Army Wife 101. At the time I did it as a way to express my feelings and share my life. Today it has become a career but most importantly it is a portable career. This means no matter where I go I can take it with me.
Now while blogging is certainly not for everyone, there are many great growing career fields that have opportunities available nationwide and are transferable.
Many military spouses are looking for programs that they can take with them to new duty stations since we move so often.
Recently Career Step shared with me details on their wide range of training programs which can be completed in a few months and done anywhere as long as you have an internet connection.
Career Step is an online school providing professional career education, focuses on helping students quickly gain the career skills they need to succeed in rapidly growing industries. With 20 years of experience, the school has trained over 70,000 students in the United States and internationally and offers programs in the allied health, administrative services, and technology industries.
Some of the programs offered by Career Step that are covered completely under MYCAA include:
1) Medical Transcription Editor
2) Medical Coding and Billing
3) Pharmacy Technician
4) Computer Technician
5) Medical Administrative Assistant
6) Administrative Assistant
Using MYCAA
Career Step offers a number of military tuition funding options. These include MyCAA funding for eligible military spouses, a partnership with Augusta State University that provides an option for active duty service members using tuition assistance benefits, and military tuition discounts. Career Step is on the G.I. Jobs Military Friendly Schools list.
I know from personal experience that MYCAA can be a little confusing (at least it was when I used it). Career Step has created an e-book called Top 5 MyCAA Myths for military spouses who are wondering if MyCAA funding can cover their education. It takes a look into the primary reasons military spouses don’t take advantage of the benefit and what makes a military spouse eligible.
As mentioned earlier the best part of Career Step programs is that MYCAA will cover the entire tuition. That’s one heck of a load off your back if you are looking to further your career training.
You can enroll and learn more at Career Step.

I love Career Step and I am so glad that they are MyCAA approved. Medical Transcription Editing and Medical Coding & Billing are their most portable careers but it is nice that army spouses can get any of Career Step’s training covered by MyCAA funds! http://www.careerstep.com/mycaa-funds?uid=ref10077
