As you know at Army Wife 101 we love when brands and retailers support our military. Deployments are stressful and after 6-12 months in a combat zone a service member deserves nothing more then a little vacation and family time.
The family oriented Homewood Suites along with First Lady Michelle Obama’s Joining Forces Initiative recently did just that for a soldier who had returned home on leave from his forth deployment. SGT First Class Russell Zink came home on a three day leave thinking he was going to just hang with his immediate family and visit the aquarium in Georgia. Little did he know about the surprise that was awaiting for him.
What he didn’t know is that Hilton’s Homewood Suites had arranged for 20 family members of his to fly in and have an all expense paid family reunion and vacation together. The entire Zink family had a chance to visit Coca-Cola Museum, Georgia Aquarium and CNN headquarters and enjoyed a family banquet at Hilton Midtown Atlanta.
This family reunion is just one part of Hilton’s new Operation Opportunity “a pledge to hire 10,000 veterans over the next five years and donate millions of Hilton HHonors points to assist job-seeking veterans.” Hilton also hopes to continue with plans for a national travel military program that will allow other military service members and their families to reunite just as the Zink family did.
This is the first in a series of military reunions being arranged by Hilton Worldwide’s international brand of upscale, all-suite, extended-stay hotels, which it hopes will be a catalyst for a larger national military family travel program that brings in sponsors from across the travel industry.
The Zink family was connected with Hilton through the Joining Forces Initiative and the National Military Family Association. They too will be working with Hilton to continue this program for our military.
