I am pretty sure the majority of us have moved enough to know the usual. We move then we have to start our utilities and for some of us this can be quite a few depending on what you choose to have. I honestly do hate the hassle of starting electricity, cable etc.

USAA has created the Utilities Market Place which basically takes you to another website where you can start several household utilities in one place.

I took a look and logged onto my USAA account just to give it a quick try and the idea seems great. The problem I did experience is when I clicked on the electricity tab the incorrect electric service provider came up, so I am not so sure how accurate the services will be for your area.

Also if you’re military and your base installation provides an electricity deposit waiver (like here at Fort Bragg if you live off post) then you may not be able to use all the services on here.

I did play around with the cable services part and that came up correctly but quite honestly I am not exactly a third party type of gal I prefer to call in and get my services with the specific company itself.

In addition there are many other services you can utilize such as the change your address feature , internet , telephone , home security services and more.

Again when it comes things I am going to be paying for I think I would rather call in to the actual company to make sure I am getting the best deal for my buck. When it comes to my mail I want to go through the US Postal Service not a 3rd party.

All in all I think the service itself is good and many will find it useful but I think how convenient and useful it is will truly depend on your location and what services you will need.

4 Comments on USAA Offers One Stop Utility Marketplace…Yay or Nay?

  1. I think it’s a good idea, a good option for those who would choose to do it this way. I’m like you and would rather contact companies directly to see what services/prices/packages I could be directly offered. I have a feeling that not all of that would be offered on the USAA website. For instance, we’re on the “budget plan” with our gas/energy provider up here, I doubt something like that would be offered on the website, you’d have to call the company directly to find out about that.

  2. If the kinks get worked out I think it could be fantastic. I know when I move to a new area I am stressed trying to figure everything out and I get scatter brained. So USAA offering this up is amazing for those of us who are stressers when moving who seem to forget everything and whose head would roll down a hill if not screwed on. I will have to utilize this in a few months!

  3. I haven’t tried USAA’s Market Place but, I will check into it when we get orders outta here.. which please let it be soon! (fingers crossed) However, when I moved out here to Indiana they did a 3rd party application for services that covered my electricity, water, gas, sewer, trash, which was nice 3 less calls to make. I was nervous about doing that however, it went through without a hitch..
