You hear so many parents say how when you have a child it really does change you . It sounds cliche but it’s so amazingly true. I was never a selfish person necessarily , but I was very much engulfed in my own world. When I had my son it was the most life changing event for me. I automatically cared about him more than myself and I was fine with that. When he was a newborn I would look over his crib and tear up and sometimes cry because all I wanted to do was protect him and make sure he was safe. Even when he was little my son had something amazingly special about him and even more so now. Yes I know every parent says that , but he has a special kindness and sensitivity to him that I sincerely admire.

Now that Summer break is here my little guy wakes up earlier to grab his laptop and get on the computer games with his friends from school. Even though most kids his age are so innocently in their own little worlds , my son makes sure to come and climb in bed with me every morning for at least 5 minutes.

He opens my bedroom door “Hi Mama…good morning!” Then begins his his happy chatter”Mom did you know…oh and mom did you see…..”. He then gets up and says “okay mom I’m gonna go play my game now”. Sometimes I’m still half asleep and he will ask “do you need anything”? and I will say no , and then he will say “you don’t need a hug from me?”.  He then comes and hugs me and puts my glasses on my face. He doesn’t realize it because he is only 9 , but when he gets older this will always be one of the sweetest memories I have whenever I see or think about him. Those morning hugs  mean so much because not only does it say that my kid is a loving child, but it lets me know that even this once semi self absorbed woman known as Army Wife 101 is doing something right!
