4 Comments on Downtown Disney Resorts Wants To Know “Why Are You Proud To Be A Military Family” and Give Away (2) All Expense Paid Vacations

  1. My husband John and I have been married for a year and a half. We are both in our early twenties. John is currently in active duty in the United States Army. He has been in active duty a little over a year. He was deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in November of last year. While in Afghanistan his unit was in charge of route clearance. John was the gunner in his truck and one day while they were on a mission John’s truck was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED). They medivaced all of the men who were in his truck including him and brought them to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan to give them medical assistance. John was moved to the hospital in Landstuhl, Germany a couple days later because he needed further medical attention. He sustained injuries in his ankle and in two of his thoracic vertebraes in his back. His ankle was shattered and he had to have surgery to take the broken bones out. He has had physical therapy to build up enough muscle in his ankle to compensate for the missing bone pieces. He has lost about 2 inches in height because of his back problems which the doctors say his back will never fully be recovered. Although he has been through all of this he is still alive and well which is all that matters.

I am so proud of my husband for fighting for his country. Even though my husband was injured during his first deployment he plans on re-enlisting and making the army a career until he retires. He loves his job and I will continue to support him with anything he does. My cousin died last year while serving in Iraq which makes me even more proud of my husband because I know my cousin would also be really proud of him. Our whole family supports the troops and what they are doing for their country. Not everyone can be a soldier and the fact that I am married to one makes me feel so proud and honored. I work at the child development center on post which is also very fulfilling knowing I am making a difference in the lives of military children. The children have it so hard with a parent being gone so often that even just possibly making their day fun and something they can look forward to is very rewarding. Being apart of the army is like being apart of a family, we just have a type of bond that not many people can understand. I am very thankful to have a wonderful husband who is also a hero, at least in my eyes and the eyes of our family and peers.

  2. I am nominating my family for this Disney trip giveway. I believe my family should be choosen because my two boys really need some special time with their Daddy. We have not been able to go on vacation since summer 2008 when my husband returned from over a two year deployment in Aghanistan. Our oldest son is now six and he missed 2.5 to 3 yrs of his first years. It has been a blessing to have him here to enjoy our youngest who is now 18 mos. He has been able to enjoy the first words, crawl, walk, and it’s been such a blessing!
IHowever, in January he will be leaving us to go to California for TDY and then a deployment is supposively in the works after our third child is born in early April.
I could not think of a better person(s) to receive to this very honorable gift because my husband always gives puts his country, community and family first and even though he is away often and works very long hours. My husband has been in the US Army Reserves for many years and is now in Special Forces near Andrews AF Base which he reported to over most the summer. Our children missed him alot. Our six year old lost his first tooth without his daddy being home. Another great moment of the ‘the firsts” which my husband missed, out of his control. When he is not serving and on orders for the military he is serving our local streets at Chesterfield Co. Police Officer of almost five years. He is admired and respected by many senior to him because he always does his job with 100% just like his family time.

This has been a tough year for us with me having unexpected surgery on a something the doctors thought was cancer and then our youngest son, Charlie whom is now 18 mos got sick unexpectedly in May and was hospitalized for over a week due to a very high fever they just couldn’t break, and now a rocky start to the first four months of our pregnancy with a scare of no heart beat to now being home from my job on doctors orders with a ruptured disk and nerve damage to a possible advancement to my bone tumor. It’s a scary thing not knowing and hoping the baby is okay. We have learned through our previous tough times of deployment and other health issues that we can get through our situations if we rely on each other and put our love and energy into all we do and be blessed for what we do have.

I am so blessed to have two wonderful boys who love and admire their father so dearly and see the sacrifices he makes to help others and that they are blessed with him in there lives. This trip to Disney with the boys and my husband would give them time to bond;away from home and time to reflect on our family and enjoy the fun water and other activities they have since he will be departing in a short time and then baby number three will be here. I can not tell you how much this would mean to my husband and the boys and that is why if we were to be choosen it would be a surprise to them, because I have decided to keep this secret so it is just such a happy surprise to them if we were to get choosen, because they deserve it so much and my husband especially deserves a time of rest and reflection and time away from the everyday grind which he gives and gives each day for his family and others. This trip would mean the world to my family and I. I hope I was able to express that in this short note. Even if, I can not enjoy everything it is just a blessing to watch them have fun and enjoy and to be selfless after all my husband has done for his family.
