My military family was recently invited to check out ClimbZone in White Marsh, MD and — wow — what a night! I had the pleasure of meeting all three owners, two of whom are Veterans of the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.
Why Is ClimbZone Revolutionary?
You may be familiar with rock wall climbing, but when you walk into ClimbZone, expect your jaw to drop! They offer a unique concept in family entertainment with 80 colorful and creative indoor climbing walls that are individually themed. Example? My family and I climbed a lighthouse, the Empire State Building, Jack’s beanstalk, Big Ben and much more!
And I’ll be the first to admit — my six- and eight-year-old boys climbed higher than I did!!! They scaled to the top of 28-foot walls and we were all proud of their accomplishments.
The climbing was a stellar workout, offered exciting adventure, and unlike visiting playgrounds or when climbing trees, I didn’t hear, “Mom, I’m stuck! Come and get me!” Nope — not at ClimbZone. You see, we all wore harnesses for safety and were able to gracefully auto-belay down to a padded mat once our climbs were done. (And bonus? Your kids can climb and get energy out, rain, shine, heat or snow!)

What’s the ClimbZone Experience Like?
When you arrive, you’ll fill out a digital waiver if you don’t already have one on file (waivers and reservations are available online). All climbers will be given a harness, and receive instructions on how to clip, climb, auto-belay down, unclip and repeat. From there, it’s pretty magical — kids and adults can roam with independence and confidence — and there’s nowhere to go but up!
Trainers regularly circle through the facility offering encouragement and support, and it’s not uncommon to see a ClimbZone trainer climb the wall to help an unsure climber.
There are walls of varying difficulty, and if you find you don’t love one, you simply auto-belay down and move on to the next of your choosing. Trust us — there are plenty of options with the potential for hours of fun, exercise and accomplishment! My family and I especially enjoyed climbing walls together, side-by-side, providing encouragement as we climbed higher and higher.
In addition to the custom-themed walls, ClimbZone offers a bounce house, an inflatable slide, GaGa Ball and ample benches if you want to rest or watch.
Another perk? You don’t have to worry about greasy, overpriced food. You are allowed to bring outside food and beverages to enjoy at one of their many tables! This is perfect for groups and parties.

- 1.5-hour plan: Climbers (6 yrs+) $17 plus tax, children ages 2-5 $8 plus tax, non-climbers are free, military receives 20% off. (Climbers must be at least 2 years of age to climb and those under 2 years of age are free only with a paid admission.)
- 3-hour plan: Climbers (6 yrs+) $25 plus tax, children ages 2-5 $12 plus tax, non-climbers are free, military receives 20% off. (Climbers must be at least 2 years of age to climb and those under 2 years of age are free only with a paid admission.)
- Both plans include all 80 walls, 2 inflatables, and GaGa Ball.
