We all have them on our Facebook friend list. You know that friend or acquaintance you had at some point until you realized they were bringing too much drama into your life or that they were the “smile to your face and complain behind your back” type of friend? What do you do about them? Most of the time they are friends with other people you are connected to and still live at your current duty station. It can be hard to hit the delete or block button when you know you will be in line together at the commissary or PX.
I had a few of these, but one REALLY bad one. In my case I started getting annoyed at every little thing they posted on Facebook. You know how people become besties with someone you know they have said horrible things about and when you read their comments it makes your blood boil? So that started getting to me and instead of deleting the lovely individuals, I just took their status updates off my feed. This worked for a little while, but then I started thinking about all the things in my life that they were still reading and gossiping to others about. So, I took the plunge. I decided that if I claim to be an honest and true person, then having them on my friends list to keep the peace was hypocritical. I deleted those toxic people from my list. I wonder if they even noticed? I just know that as much as I had put this off, when I finally hit delete I felt free and true to myself.
Facebook can sometimes put us into this eternal high school mode and make us worry about what others think of our behavior. I vow that as a grown woman I will not fall into this behavior again. Why should we hang on to people that only cause us stress? Our lives have enough stress already. This mama is done with the drama. I now have something to think about for the future before I hit that “add friend” button….how long before I am then clicking on the “delete friend” button?

I agree. It’s hard to delete when they can ask mutual friends questions. Or like you said, God forbid we’re in the clinic wiring room or PX. Ugh!
I still see your posts so I guess I’m not that friend…yet! :)
You sound like my type of People :)
You are so interesting! I do not suppose I’ve truly read through anything like that before. So nice to discover someone with genuine thoughts on this issue. Seriously.. thanks for starting this up. This site is one thing that is needed on the web, someone with a bit of originality!
My brother suggested I may like this website. He was once
totally right. This post truly made my day. You can not believe simply how
so much time I had spent for this info! Thanks!
