In 2008 my husband and I were newlyweds in our first home on post. We had lived there almost one year and never had anything happen. Despite it being older housing, and rumors of paranormal activity, I always felt very safe there. My husband was a skeptic, and he used to say “I’ll believe in ghosts when they tap me on the shoulder.”

One night we had gone to bed and had all of the lights out in the house. In the middle of the night I woke up and saw a soldier in uniform standing at the foot of our bed, staring at me. Convinced we had an intruder, I began screaming at the top of my lungs. My husband woke up and saw the same soldier that I was looking at. He too believed there was an intruder in our home and began shouting at it. Jumping on top of the bed, he then was screaming for the person to leave. To our horror, the apparition moved backwards in a strange way. At this point my husband was running towards it shouting, and put his hands through the figure. He began swatting at it and the figure shrunk. We turned on the light and both ran down the stairs.

Once at the bottom of the stairs we both threw ourselves against the wall and realize at that moment we both saw and experienced the exact same thing. We were instantly nauseous. From that point on strange things continued in the house, but not to that level again. My husband insists that we sleep with the closet light on to this day, many years later. It was a frightening experience.
